Vocalist's challenge writeup
Crow sent me the beat pretty immediately after the challenge was announced and I immediately starting writing. But since the challenge called for a metaphorical approach it actually made it a little harder for me to write for some reason (OCD). I wasn't 'feeling' the song yet. After several more days of trying I took a break. Started back attempting a different verse on another song but then I wasn't 'feeling' that one. When I write I like to write to the beat. It informs the bars I create, lines I end or start on, on and usually the theme. Using found sounds to shape the challenge was a really fun task. it gave me a lot to work with lyrically when I was able to lock-in and thanks to a random sounds we created something special!
Producer's challenge writeup
90+% of the song material was recorded as a quick foley walk around my house with my phone. The next day I picked up a portable fan and recorded it to cover my bases and do a little more than re-pitching samples and using clips as wavetables or percussion layers. The sound of the motor shifting speeds and turning off ended up being the main sound across the piece. The bass, the mid-range synth pads and that kind of steel drum 'strumming' are all variations of that one sound. The strum comes from the re-pitched fan not being warped in time so the resonance kicks in and has a secondary effect that really drove the key and tone of the track. The only pre-existing sounds are the shaker, some kick and clap elements, and the "Ohhh Yeaaaa" sample is from Battery 4.

8.67/10 score rank #2 of 23VOCALS 9PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 9This beat is really cool. I love the sound design and the arrangement. All the little ear candy is wonderful. I love the scratched elements! I think the vocal mix sounds really good, but I’d love to hear a bit of clean up work on the vocal tracks. Subtle rhythm correction on the accompanying vocals to line the syllables up with the main vocal makes a world of difference in how a rap vocal hits the ear. The opening line feels sloppy just because the two vocal parts aren’t quite perfectly synced. Even with that, this might be the best intro of the round. This beat knocks, the raps go hard af. I love everything else about this song.

8.33/10 score rank #10 of 23VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 10● As rappers we always try to find a way to deal with egos and physically taking it out like it's a real person is a nice touch for a metaphor. Smooth hook with the melodic pad. Lyric delivery is solid and has a good vocal tone. The overall sound of the track is very clear and straight to the point. ● Production: smooth beat and mix throughout the track. I like the sine lead and bass lines you used in this track. I was able to drive the track home supporting the vocalist's approach and feeling in the song.

7.33/10 score rank #3 of 23VOCALS 8PRODUCTION 7CHALLENGE 7A very strong R1 entry. The build in the beginning took me a moment to find the flow, but the lyrics come in hard and fast. The phrase 'interstellar mosh pit' really resonates with me and the vibe that comes with it practically drips from this song at every turn. One of my favorites this round.

7.00/10 score rank #10 of 23VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 7CHALLENGE 7Really nice lyrics, with a nice flow to boot. kill your ego hook is a nice start, might have given a call and response type of format to it to expand on that foundation a bit. Beat is nice, great execution in terms of soundscape and evolution. Feels like the hook part could use something, can’t put my finger on it though.

8.00/10 score rank #6 of 23VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 4Beautiful imagery and incredible writing. I like the hook - simple and effective. The composition is sinister and I love the wahh synths and the chord progression, they give the track this feeling of being suspended/in limbo. I like the west coast plucks. The arrangement is incredible. Polished production is not surprising from this group. “Interstellar mosh pit asteroids all around me I'm feeling toxic” Just one of the many vivid images that this writer is so good at. The metaphor is not clear. I.e., I cannot break it down into “THING A is being compared to THING B”. My best guess is: grim repeater = psychedelic drugs. I 100% appreciate what you are doing with your objectively excellent pen, but it didn’t quite hit the mark for the specific challenge.
