it was the moose
Vocalist's challenge writeup
The Moose is kind of like a horror entity. You think you are safe from it, that you won't see it again, it's gone now... but The Moose is never gone, it's just waiting, biding it's time... until we're back baby! It's a metaphor for addiction, but also a very real metaphor for Spandex Moose coming back for you like always.
Producer's challenge writeup
The doot-de-do marimba-esque sounds were made using some Fisher Price baby stacking cups. I think it turned out quite nice.
Lyrics
Lyrics: Awww hell, finally the spring has come Pastel flowers under US sun Snow melt fresh when it touches the tongue The return of the moose season And when you hear hoofbeats come, goddamn You feel the cold creeping up in your hands There’s a chill in the air and a hush on the land As the storm from the south expands Like a glacier, carving through the valleys, unstoppable There’s a Blizzard coming, sleet and snow to put you in hospital From a Frozen Throne, icy flows tighten their grip You ain’t getting outta here, you must think that you’re slick Rick And shit, the shiver hits leaving you weak And the snow on the roof’s causing rafter’s to creak You let out a squeak, open up the door for a peep But tracks disappear when the drifts are this deep It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) It was the moose, the moose, the moose on the loose Standing by your window with a noose in his hoof Aw strewth, physically it doesn’t make sense Kinda freaky like the people when you’re catching the boos Ice cold flows hitting like a crush from boost juice The sluice gates opened now we’re flooding the hoose And your ears and your butt, yea we’re bringing the douche Gonna get you down like the feathers plucked from a goose The moose chews through sinews with a side of chartreuse Let’s get back on track with the metaphor in part deuce Everyone pretends they hate it, but they can’t hide the truth You can fight it but you’re loving the moose We’ve returned, never left, just been hibernating Now we’re back bringing fire and a diamond rating Couple sleepy boys hailing from an island nation Myelination has something to with the brain. It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) When you think things are going your way It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) Here come's the Moose to ruin your day It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) Back and we're bringing the pain It was the Moose. (Bellow sound) This metaphor really got in the way... It was the Moose.

6.67/10 score rank #14 of 23VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 6CHALLENGE 7Flow works well on the beat. Vocal doubles seem to be off time just a bit at times. Interesting percussive woodblock melody, guitar and cymbals give a nice grunge to the whole thing. Gets a bit crash heavy tho.

8.67/10 score rank #9 of 23VOCALS 8PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 9● It's the return of the moose!!! Like they never left. Cool metaphor relating to addiction. Good energy throughout the song. Just be careful with adlibs being a little louder than the main vocal themselves because they can clash in the mix. Overall good sound and energetic. ● Production: good energy throughout, drums very noticeable and pumping through the speakers. Glad to see the moose return!!!

6.00/10 score rank #18 of 23VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 5CHALLENGE 6THING 1 being compared to THING 2 Spring = Moose? Or Winter = Moose? It’s not clear to me what the metaphor is. But the song itself admits as such. You technically did meet the challenge but it could be clearer exactly what the moose is being compared to. Vocalist has GREAT potential. He understands how to ride the beat confidently, modulate his voice and inflection, vary his flows. He knows how to rhyme multisyllabically and keep his meter interesting. It’s too bad the audio production covers up the vocal a bit and doesn’t let it shine. The doubles in the vocals are not very clean, could work on lining them up better. Really like the style of this song. Chorus guitar lead is excellent. Whole chorus is well executed - “it was the moose” is easy to remember. “We’ve returned, never left, just been hibernating Now we’re back bringing fire and a diamond rating Couple sleepy boys hailing from an island nation Myelination has something to with the brain.” - BANGERRRRRRR

6.33/10 score rank #18 of 23VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 6CHALLENGE 6AAAAAH YOU'RE BACK!!! "Chartreuse/Part deux" was a bar. This is really funny and extremely self-aware--y'all's speciality. Solid concept, delivered well. This track feels pretty straight across the plate on terms of the challenge. I will say, I know that Eloquent (is it just Brian, now?) has some gat damn bars in him, so I'm excited to hear him really cut loose in future rounds. The cup work is very nice. I appreciate the little presentation up front where you showed you work. Something that percussion with most of the pitch information in the tail can be really tough to make audible but not cutting and I think you got there. I'm not sure I'm able to processing how they harmonically interact with the bassline, but I think that's down to note choice more than an ambiguous mix. The mix is really good overall.
