Akuyaku

Vocalist's challenge writeup

When it came to this challenge the two things that originally got me thinking was number one the idea that my producer had when he was making this beat. He said the fact that it reminded him of a song done by Rick Ross and then after hearing the beat I could see where he was coming from, and I decided to pay homage to that small idea that he had. After I came up with that first line it took me a while to figure out where I wanted to go from there and after some really crazy twists and turns brainstorming, honestly I couldn't truly tell you but I found myself going down this bad guy rabbit hole. That led me down a rabbit hole that taught me what an akuyaku was and I made that a light focus. From that point I spent a lot of time just thinking about current events current slang and current lingo that I could flip into some really cool bars.

Producer's challenge writeup

I sampled Futengurashi by Koumei Sone. Time: 0:03-0:07, I pitched it down and then chopped it using my SP-404. It repeats throughout the song.

Lyrics
I think im Lord Frieza, Ryomen Sukuna
I'm on a level that provides while you're a consumer
An akuyaku im kicking it like Senpukyaku
Im all gas no breaks Like a jacub fatu x2

I'm big flexing like Shao Kahn
Iced out like behan
Bring it back like Quan Chi
That's a bar for bar Resurrection X2

For you demon Slayers in question
Im past upper rank with my neck strong
No weakness like Muzan,
dAemon king wirh the suit on
"I am the one closest to perfection!"
My swags bad Michael jackson
When I come through they see the fit
You already know I got that s*** on
No need for me to Aura farm
You havent seen my final form
My shines brighter than starlight, I don't need the boys to try and put me on
My Black Air Force energy ima kill this bitch Sephiroth
Puffer jacket on Browlet, fuck with me ill set it off cuz

Walk in and the whole room get nervous
I'm the ruler see me struttin, I walk with a purpose
femi beads around my neck looking like Akuma
Stacking bodies and slaying beasts
 Need no approval
Free Gojo till it's backwards let's make it happen
King of Curses, welcome to my domain expansion
Juggling funds hands moving like six seven
No game 7, ill do it in 4, im a thing of legend

"They call me Big Meech, Larry Hoover"! First impression I felt with the first few lyrics and cadence of the song! strong lyrics and production. Lots of anime references across the board. I enjoy that each four bars scheme is referenced from the same anime especially the character that's "bad" but looks like Michael Jackson. Very dope double entendre. Production was strong, hard-hitting drums and sample flip. Only thing I would say is I would of did more with the Frieza sound bite to minimize the dead air gap. Besides that, solid Track

Your confidence and creative flow really allows you to command the and control the pocket of the song. Your voice is really fun to listen to. Each stanza feels like its own little embroidery of references perfectly stitched and interlaced together. I grew up on Freestyle Fellowship, so I love the kinda tracks where the producer just let the beat go for a bit while the emcee goes off, then a sample interlude, then back to some hard bars on a modified beat with more changeups. This feels so classic. I would love to hear you bending the samples a little more to your will. I beat is rad, but it feels like the demo that is just scratching the surface of some really cool ideas that are worth exploring. The main sample does feel a bit loud. I think with some careful EQ, you could keep the important parts as present as you need while taking out a lot of the frequencies that are crowding other elements and making it sit apart from the rest of the mix. It’s always important to to know when to give the vocalist space, and you did that here with your arrangement. Solid work overall!

Weeb bars, love it. Iced out like Bi Han… aight, lol. Bars were dope, think the flow could be executed a little tighter in certain parts. Would have loved that hook from the beginning to come back in somewhere in the song. Beat is good, could use a bit more variety melodically, but it’s pretty dope as is.

There's only one sample used total, but 1 sample from each bin was required to meet the challenge, so I docked points from that. SwagSwitcha: You're objectively one of the best vocalists in this competition delivery-wise. You flow really well and have great timefeel. However, I want to see more range in your writing. Most of your references are direct similes ("I'm ____ like ____") and braggadocio. Which is fun and you do it well. But try writing from a different POV, tell a story, start from a concept, write abstract poetry - something to break from your usual. Also, this is personal taste, but if you're borrowing Japanese words, look up the pronunciation first. ModestMind: I feel like this track suffers from the same pitfalls as Big Man, and in some ways more so: it feels empty and incomplete. Most of the song is the looped sample, which sounds cool but kind of naked because the entire song is literally sample and trap loop. And then it gets tiring on the ears. There also isn't much structure or a chorus / hook. Even with VPC constraints, I know you can do so much more with a beat.

    CHALLENGE 6

Akuyaku is apt here, I think the bars land one after the other and hit the mark. I personally love a DBZ reference, so that definitely gets a nod from me too. I think where it misses for me are at the challenge level, the notes only indicated one sample used so I had trouble pulling others out, and the beat does get repetitive after the first breakdown and fires back up around 0:51
