Vocalist's challenge writeup

Greetings. Here is another song about wrestling. Ignacio Martinez grew up underprivileged and developed a less than favorable reputation for himself until he found wrestling, where he went on to have great fame and memorable moments, only for it to come crashing down after a fateful shoot interview about the IRS. In true heel fashion, Ignacio sings his own theme song in second person, like an absolute asshole. Like Shawn Michaels singing Sexy Boy, but worse.

Producer's challenge writeup

Created entrance theme that matches Ignacio's persona, just under 30 seconds, and used that as the main base for the chorus. We wanted the entrance theme to be mainly instrumental with cut up "catchphrases" sort of like what the rock's theme sounded like.

Lyrics
for years the world has searched
for the baddest man on earth
Not knowing he was sleeping behind buckees in a yurt

you would be amazed
by the way that things have changed
but don't you go on feeling bad cause he's not even phased

He saved the orphanage from closing in a ladder match
and then he burned it to the ground, no one knows where the kids are at
doctors told him that he's missing several pieces of his brain
He knows you'll never love him but at least you know his name

Ignacio Martinez
his chin music is sweetest
he'd leave ya staring at the lights while thinkin he don't need this
Ignacio Martinez
a miscreant and meanest
there ain't a low that he won't go to re-exploit a weakness

It wasn't easy as a son of a dope fiend
and he wasn't known for always keeping his nose clean
he found a sport where he could rise to the top
nobody told him he could rake in so much money from an elbow drop
clotheslined a deer at a Japanese camp site
threw his former tag team partner onto a landmine
he'll get on the mic when he's got something to say
going kayfabe on the taxman taking his pay

well I guess you could say that they took it personal
the thing about the IRS is that they never merciful
and if you were to ask him knowing everything would he do it again
I think he'd do it all again
Ignacio Martinez he ain't ever give a shit
I saw him super-plex a grizzly just to prove that it's legit
took his car they took his cash they took his credit, and they flush it down the drain
and now he only has his name

Love the baseline of this track, it captures that memorable magic you hear in iconic wrestling themes. Song does a great job of telling how awesome Ignacio is, I’d like to have a beer with this guy. Hook is dope. Clotheslined a deer in a Japanese campsite? Yeah this guy fux.

Nailed the challenge - painted a clear picture of Ignacio's narrative and what kind of person / persona he is. Intro theme is spot on as a wrestling theme. Promo video is fun and high effort, gives us more insight on the character. I also appreciate Beefy trying on many new dials here as per my feedback. I think it was to mixed results but not because of him. My production score for Tanner isn't because I think the production is bad - it's great, ponderous and sinister like the character. I just personally don't find the chords and melodies used very compelling. I think the song suffers for it a bit. There is a part (the orphanage part) where Beefy just sings the melody of the bass line in eighth notes over and over. I don't know whose decision that was, but found it a weird choice and it went on too long and my attention drifted. But overall excellent effort for meeting the challenge.

A live cymbal part can REALLY lend SO much vibe to a track. Underrated af. I love that y'all went slow. It feels so pitch perfect for that attitude-era grease-rock vibe. I want more ear candy, though. I do love that tom fill. I love a melodic rap vocal. The story is solid and the song works on a surface level as well. Got me headbanging along with the hook. Outro has massive character as well. Already got me singing along.

This is definitely a well put together track overall. Mix was definitely a great improvement this round along with the vocals sitting nicely in the mix. Solid lyrics and production and really like the wrestling move reference like "chin music is the sweetest" nice touch. singing vocals had a nice grunge touch to it that I enjoyed. Keep it up!

Okay this one hits absolutely ALL the marks for me this round. A perfect example of a wrestling track, the story is laid out, and I love the note about the Shawn Michaels, I'm doing my own damn song, angle. I can totally picture Ignacio fitting in with the NWO crowd back in the day haha. Well done!
