The ballad of Nacho Picante!

Open audio
Vocalist's challenge writeup

I thought it would be fun to have Nacho Picante, the persona, to be heavily inspired by Nacho Libre, which is in turn inspired by a real person. The first verse tells of his origins of his decision to fight, the second verse covers rise to fame as he pays his dues until being discovered, and the third verse covers his fall from glory through putting his fighting career before the people he set out to help.

Producer's challenge writeup

I wanted to stay as true to the luchador theme as possible. High flying showmanship and great performing skills. the horns and guitar play nicely into our song and the intro being the entrance theme just imagine the lights go low and all you hear is that acoustic ring!!!! you know your in for a treat!

I enjoyed this track! The luchador scene is definitely slept on and im glad that you decided to shed light on it in this song. Good delivery but would give the vocal a little more of an EQ that matches from the verses and the hook portion. the production was good. I would recomend a side chain on the drums to make them hit a littler hard in the mix. Keep it up!

Don't call it a comeback- I see you Nacho! I know you couldn't continue under your original group for R1, but after seeing your name on this submission I was eager to see the development, and you delivered here! This seems way more your element; you feel more comfortable in this song and it shows. The vocals here are rock solid. You producer did you justice too, I think they found a great compliment for your style, and y'all hit the ground running this round. Keep going, I want to see explosive growth from here! Next time give me some lyrics so I can follow along better, please!

Pretty solid writing and rapping from Nacho. Really came into your timing and flow this time! Challenge achieved for both vox and producer. I could've used a bit more color on Nacho Picante's persona himself - what does he dress like, how does he behave on screen/stage? Production side feels rough around the edges. I like the luchador-inspired sound elements. I just feel that the overall beat is a bit simplistic and the mixing engineering could be more polished.

Obviously a luchador is coming out to this record. Flow pattern on this one is classic old school, some syllables fall off pocket a bit, but the effort is solid. Beat could use some variety, drums seem a bit low in the mix. Love the sample work here, particularly the Nachoooooo vocal. Overall song mix has the vocals sitting a bit too prominent. I enjoyed the vibes nonetheless.

Points for sticking to concept! There are long sections of this song where it feels like you are mostly reading the lyrics, but some sections where you are really communicating emotion toward the end, not just in the dynamics, but the heart of the lyrics. The bedless line doesn't really land with the gravity a lyric like that feels like it warrants. This is a clear story with a clear arc. You use a lot of similes, but I feel like some of them could be punched up if you wrote a dozen alts and picked the one that hits best. The different elements of this beat don't feel like they are playing in the same room or telling the same story. I would encourage you to dig into some old mariachi, cumbia, or norteno depending on your character's lore, and find some horns and guitars to sample. I'm not sure your arrangement is really giving the luchador vibe. I love some glitch production, but it's important to know how much is too much and when you gotta deliver on a big phat ass beat drop with some huge bass after a shrieking glitch is held out. And that beat just did not have the bass or pocket it needed to for the payoff setup by that intro. The pops in the vocal take are hitting harder than the kick or the sub bass in the beat. The balance of the mix will make or break every single song. It takes an all-timer classic of a song to shine through a super unbalanced mix, and I'm sorry but y'all aren't Enya. No one outside the grounds of Manderley Castle is.
