LOTTA FUCKIN NERDS IN HERE
Vocalist's challenge writeup
Apparently I couldn't shake the idea of writing an autobiographical song after last round, so I'm doing it again. When I started doing shows, I was welcomed and celebrated by the local scene and shared several bills with punk, ska, and metal bands. Other rap acts didn't seem to hang around so much, but the kids dug nerdcore. Or at least Beefy. Either way it worked out for the best and I credit it with my early push into whatever the hell it is that I am now. Very much the inspiration for my half of Blunt Force. The Year: 2009. The Scene: Eastern Washington Millennials. The Club: By day an American & Chinese Restaurant - But at night the kids show up to rock! Refs: Rough Ride - An off-menu drink sold during shows. 0 memory what was in it. I assume a Long Island with Coke or something but who knows. Mongolian/Almond Chicken - during the daytime hours the venue was a restaurant. Pierced/Gauged - all these fuckers had huge holes in their ears, as was the style at the time. X/Parking Lot - Ray's had a huge parking lot and no real supervision. Bouncer only sometimes. Very common to see the underages getting bombed in the parking lot before doors/between sets. Resin/Supervillains - Opened several times for ska/reggae band The Supervillains who had a popular song called Resin. Still a catchy stoner song. Give it a go. GWay - George Washington Way is the most populated street in the city of Richland, WA where a bulk of the town's venues are located Colored hair - It felt very prevalent. Your boy had bright red hair back then, as was the style at the time. Lying if I told ya all my lays have been gold - borderline criminal attempt at innuendo? The spot was called Ray's Golden Lion. I'm struggling here. I'm sure there's better in here somewhere. Explaining a joke is always the best. I blame yall for this now. I've turned it around on you. You're the problem, actually.
Producer's challenge writeup
Your arrangement and production must include at least five clear artistic choices made with the intention of engaging a live crowd: Risers in intro and bridge sections to build up energy to the verses Used every vocal take I was given to build big group vocals in the chorus Group chant samples used to encourage crowd participation The main chord progressions are simple enough for the average listener to get stuck in their head quickly, but the changes and addition of layers throughout the track make it feel consistently evolving. We would play this at a festival to lure in people passing by. Big break down section in the final chorus , it brings everything to a big singalong and head bang in unison-type finish - at this point in the concert beefy could stop singing and the crowd would be singing the hook for him _ My main drop is the breakdown before the final chorus, it also uses call and response rhythm between beefy and a crowd chant vocal The pocket shift on this track happens in the second half of the final chorus where it goes halftime

9.67/10 score rank #3 of 21VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 10Thrashing my head around spilling drank all over myself kinda vibes here. This would go crazy live. The production here is good, everything sounds cohesive. I think the cadence shift at the end might benefit from less lead guitar to help it stand out more, but otherwise, this is good stuff.

10.00/10 score rank #1 of 21VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10Chinese restaurant punk ska club? I WANT TO GO TO THERE. Beefy really hit his stride with this punk rock anthem streak. This was the most effective his vocals have ever been. Like Pinky, he finally found the sweet spot between singing and rapping. That chorus is fire. And I love the unique true story, such a great concept for a "club anthem". I really couldn't find much to nitpick about with Tanner's production either. It's perfect for the track and the vocals sit nice and tight among the huge brash guitars. To be clear, I wouldn't say this is overall my favorite track, but it's so technically well-executed on each parameter that it gets the full score. This round is tough to choose a favorite for. I like them all a lot.

9.67/10 score rank #4 of 21VOCALS 9PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10Love the deceptive intro. This track is a blast. This would hit just right in a punk club. The half-time breakdown feels great, the section flow well and the track has a great dynamic narrative overall. Strong work! Vocals are on point. I would love to hear a little more space on the hook lyric-wise, mabe? But it's honestly hard to complain because this is that shit I do like.

7.33/10 score rank #15 of 21VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 7Great Song! lots of energy throughout from the vocals and the production! although it has the energy, it doesn't match the challenge of being a "club" type of song! would kill at a live performance but at a club with a DJ it could be tough as a transition.

9.00/10 score rank #3 of 21VOCALS 8PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 10Continuously this group gets the marks for high effort, high quality contributions, and this one continues the trend Digging the nod to old punk shows, it reeks of my town's scene and that's worth a bonus point for sure. Love the pacing, the song rips, and the chorus is immediately catchy. Knocked this one out of the park!
