Vocalist's challenge writeup

Imp & navi's Round 4 track is made to represent the gaming culture found in Atlanta. Between CartridgeATL, Joystick, Challengers, My Parent's Basement, Round 1, Battle & Brew, annual conventions, etc., these locations and events are dedicated to games of all sorts including card games and fighting games, with a live DJ aspect per event included. An unspoken truth of all of these scenes is that there's a lot of drug trade done by patrons and attendees of these establishments, wherein it's become a regular find during these events. Compositionally speaking, this song is made to feel like attending these events, where live DJs are a commonality, blending songs together while people participate in their games either casually or in tournaments. Lyrically, while the song is unequivocally a celebration of gaming in all formats, it is made to playfully allude to the drug use and dealings that make up its attendees. There are many double entendres, annotated and listed in the lyrics

Lyrics
[BOOSTER PACK]
You need a boost shawty, you should fuck with us
Come to packs, you know the deal, get the cash and run it up
We got that blue eyes white, girl, drag on, you love so much
Take a wiff, stardust overdrive, fortune's future, super luck

Get in line, take a line, k horse, blow up the trap
You and white pressure flock together, you don't know how to act
You know what you want, shawty, cop this booster pack
Maiden of white in the Destiny, you ain't new to that

Come cop this booster pack shawty, swear you'll blow up
Come cop this booster pack shawty, get this holo foil
Come cop this booster pack shawty, youon't know what's in it
Come cop this booster pack shawty, black luster mint condition

Got Medusa's Snake Hair, one look'll get you stoned
Bring yo friends round the trap, yall can get a groupon
We got plants, got em trimmed
Purple hairs, Violet Witch
Orange hairs, Fire Charmer
What's in store? Gotta wonder

Don't run off, pay your fee, I pull your card, pot of greed
I got the best deals around, shawty, you gotta shop with me

I could be your Mushroom Man 2/too, it's sappin' my life
So if you need to get this boost, you can have it on mine

[COIN OP]
All that mashin' you been doin', man, you ain't doin' shit
You been blowin' all that smoke for real, you ain't movin' shit
Cop an order of these plinks, droppin' quarters in this bitch
I don't duck the competition, I just duck and flash kick

Fuckin' round wit me, baby sheeyit, you know you gettin' wax(ed)
You know you gettin' Smashed, Strong Green, Lil Mac
I run the block, you just block, I sonic boom, we holdin' back
If your friend keep lookin' at me, hop on the stick, she gettin' bagged

You been blowin' Os forreal, can bet I gotta win
I'm the one frontin' Os forreal, you can bet I got this zipped
You been blowin' Os forreal, can bet I gotta win
I'm the one frontin' Os forreal, you can bet I got this zipped

Call your friend into the fray if you know you need assist
This OG got you OTG, and caught in infinites
I beat it hard, berserk barrage, you can't runaway B
Don't take this China white in vain, Yun Lee, Genei Jin

No longer holding back, move forward with punches, mane
I stay quick to roll green and I ain't a Blanka main
Gotchu on this 2-in-1 deal, it's a special, just for you
And I gotchu two/zero, copped the dub, what's the move?

You been blowin' Os forreal, can bet I gotta win
I'm the one frontin' Os forreal, you can bet I got this zipped
You been blowin' Os forreal, can bet I gotta win
I'm the one frontin' Os forreal, you can bet I got this zipped

[ANNOTATIONS]

[Booster Pack]
Boost. Like a booster pack in TCG. Or a pick me up from drugs.

Packs. Like a booster pack. Or a sealed containment of cocaine, often sold by the ounce or pound by big dealers.

Blue eyes white girl (cocaine, or possibly a literal woman in the case of this song). Drag on/Dragon homophone, meaning one is telling one repeatedly (dragging on).

Stardust overdrive is a card found in the Fortune's Future booster pack of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. Also dust overdrive. Like cocaine. What else you want me to say?

Get in line, take a line. Like doing a line of cocaine. Line Hero K Horse is a monster whose special summon ability is to destroy one trap card. K Horse, while not a homophone with K Hole, sounds like K hole. Trap houses where drugs are sold. C'mon.

"White Pressure" like pressured to do cocaine. The card White Pressure in Japan is known as Flock Together in the USA.

Maiden of White (white girl) is found in the White Destiny booster pack.

Holo foil are super rare cards.

Black Luster Soldier 1999 Stainless Steel edition is one of the most expensive Yu-Gi-Oh! cards, valued between 2 and 10 million dollars.

Snake Hair, one look will get you "stoned". "Stoned" is a term for being very high off cannabis. The flavor text of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card "The Snake Hair" reads: "[a] monster with a head of poison snakes. One look from this monster can turn an opponent to stone."

Purple hairs are a sign of good indica, usually. Violet Witch is a monster card depicted with literal purple hair.

Orange hair is a sign of good sativa, usually. Hiita the Fire Charmer is a mosnter card that's a literal red head.

The "pull your card" idiom means to call someone's bluff or reveal them as a fraud. The punchline refers to the Yu-Gi-Oh card "Pot of Greed", allows the user to draw 2 cards.

Mushroom Man 2/Too homophone. Mushroom Man 2 inflicts damage to its owner on the field at 300 Life Points a turn. If the current owner spends 500 Life Points, they can shift Mushroom Man 2 to their opponent's side of the field.

[Coin Op]
A coin op is short for a coin operated, such as a coin op arcade cabinet. The homophone "Opp" means an opponent, which is the role of the narrator in this song for the listener within a fighting game. Scams for people's money are sometimes referred to as "operations".

Blowing smoke. Like talking shit. Or literally blowing smoke.

Dropping quarters. Like quarters in an arcade cabinet, or 7 Gs/quarter ounces of weed.

Plinks. Fighting game term. An input trick where you press two different buttons on two consecutive frames.

The input for doing a Flash Kick in most Street Fighter games requires ducking.

Getting wax(ed). Getting utterly beat up. Or getting wax, a THC concentrate.

You're getting Smashed (as in defeated). Strong green, meaning good weed. Lil Mac is a punchline (lmao) since he's known for wearing green, being a boxer (hence, strong), and a recent Smash Bros. addition, another fighting game.

You just block, I sonic boom, we holdin' back. It's a triple entendre. For one to block, you hold back on a joystick opposite to the direction they're facing. To Sonic Boom, you literally have to hold back much like a block. If I'm holding back figuratively, I'm not exerting my full strength in combat.

Hop on the stick, she getting bagged. Like, hop on the arcade sticks and get bodybagged. Or hop on a penis, and being won over either sexually or romantically.

Blowing Os forreal. Triple entendre. You can blow smoke rings (or O's) out one's mouth, usually done with smoking hookah but can also be found in vape culture. Or blowing(/smoking) Os as in ounces of cannabis. Or getting Os (0s) in regards to a win/loss record.

One fronting Os. In drug culture, a kingpin will give drugs to a lower plug (to front) in advance for free, expecting full payment later. The narrator here is providing Os/0s as losses for their opponent. Alternatively, the narrator's win-loss record could be comprised of putting up a lot of 0s, such as 10s or 100s of wins.

Got this zipped. Got it in the bag, referring to wins. Or got it zipped, like an ounce of weed (colloquially known as a zip).

Assists in fighting games are calling in a second character to provide support.

OG as in orginal gangster, which colloquially speaking means an elder who's respected within your respective scene. It can also mean the "original" in some contexts. To keep in line with the drug metaphors, OG is popularly short for OG Kush or other "OG" prefixed strains of weed.
OTG means off the ground in FGC terminology. Also, good weed can have you "lifted", giving feelings of being off the ground.

Infinites/Infinite combos are a combo that can continue forever in theory, but in practice will end because either the clock or your opponent's health will run out. Most infinite combos involve looping a sequence of moves over and over, and in modern games typically require a convoluted setup or a bug to trick the game into letting it happen. Many Infinites, particularly in Marvel vs Capcom 2, work by causing juggle combos that can be looped, feeding into the OTG/Off the ground lyric preceding the one about infinites.

"Berserk(er) Barrage" is Wolverine's trademark attack in the Marvel vs. Capcom series.

China white is a powerful, offbrand heroin. Yun Lee from Street Fighter is a Chinese character who wears white. Set up punchline type shit. So! If we're to take china white as a drug, "don't take this china white IN VEIN" as heroin is taken intravenously. If we take it to refer to Yun Lee, "don't take this china white IN VAIN" as in to not underestimate him. Double entendre by way of a pun. The Genei Jin (幻影陣, "Phantom Array") is one of Yun's special attacks, introduced as his third Super Art in the Street Fighter III series.

"No longer holding back, move forward with punches, man(e)/ quick to roll green and I ain't a Blanka main." The narrator, contrary to what's said in the previous verse, is no longer holding back in assault and going all out. But also, Blanka is a charge character; you hold back on the joystick, then hit forward & punch to do a rolling attack. He's also green. To smoke weed (colloquially known as "green"), one must first "roll" it as in papers or blunts. Man(e)/main homophone because literally devices are cool. "Mane" is a way to pronounce man in some southern American territories. "Main" is one's primary character of choice in a fighting game.

2-in-1 deal sounds like a sale special, but in FGC it's old-school slang for canceling a normal into a special move. (Thus making "it's a special" technically a punchline.) It's more common to hear "cancel" in modern day contexts, but 2-in-1 is the "OG" term. It's purposefully used in this verse not just for its potential double reference, but also to refer back to the verse's narrator self-referring to being an "OG" earlier in the verse for narrative consistency.

"And I gotchu two/zero, copped the dub". Referring to this being the second verse, the narrator implies that they've beaten their opponent in a fighting game 2 to zero and got a win, colloquially known as a W or a Dub. A "dub" sack in cannabis terminology is a $20 sack of weed(, a "two, zero" if you will).

God y'all REALLY understood the assignment. This might be the standout track in terms of a consistent, through-line DOUBLE FUCKIN ENTENDRE. TCG as a metaphor for drugs - such a great concept and this would totally fulfill Round 1's challenge too. Every single bar is chock full of nerdy drug wordplay. This is peak nerdcore. Take notes. You also have a great handle on the genre you're creating. I don't know if either of you are from Atlanta, but you have a clear grasp of how ATL party trap is supposed to sound for maximum danceability and banger-ness. I really like this chopped up breakdown. It's gnarly AND engaging. Navi's production challenge elements here are a great example of how you can make change ups and drops feel noticeable, but still feel like congruous parts to a whole. God it's funny because this also isn't my favorite track this round, but you performed flawlessly on every parameter and I cannot nitpick it, so you get a full score.

dope submission! dig the production and vocal effects in the track but it sounds like a trap record but small transitions of club elements. I was hoping for a more consistant club drum rhythm throughout. Dope beat but for a club feel there has to be a middle ground for the feel overall! still good track though.

A two for one special goes crazy for a challenge like this, the opportunity for drops only doubles and becomes a focal point of the transition, and that's something worth giving attention to. This definitely gives party con theme vibes, and a nostalgia for the days of college game night vibes; a couple beers and mario kart, tekken, fifa, or anything to gather the homies in one place for the night. Not only is this an absolute banger, it hits all the marks, and sets the goalpost for this round. Incredible!

Cop this booster pack, shawty you don’t know what’s in it… very catchy hook. Love the melodic vocal performance here. Quick to roll the green and I ain’t a Blanka man is clever. This would definitely have me locking eyes with a shawty on the dance floor. The beat is dope, very interesting while holding the energy needed to keep people on the dance floor. Love the fact that the DJ vocals and overall mix makes this sound like a live club set. Great execution all around.

This is HELLA clubby, which I know is not either of y'all particular wheelhouse. I know you're both super versatile, but this is a flex. Pitch perfect vibes. Swimmy in a great way. I love when the bars drop in. The switchups feel super creative but also well planned. This reminds me of the kind of nimble production work Lido blew up on. I love the fake out breakdown and all the crowdwork. Are these live mix moves or just designed to sound like it? The phone call is so classic. The entire arrangement is planned for the live show. Even the DJ mic drop! lmao, yes. This is a grand slam for the challenge. All 10s.
