Producer's challenge writeup

When the challenges were distributed, a team named the Idealistic Misfits was given one of them. Our team, the Idealistic Mystics, was left out of the distribution entirely. Therefore, we took it upon ourselves to forge our own path here in Round 5. We all took inspiration from various wiki pages (see lyrics), and I determined to make a multi-movement instrumental that could showcase a wide variety of sounds (also, ADHD happened). We start lo-fi, but we move from there to boom-bap, hybrid trap, EDM, and drum'n'bass, ending with a nod to our first round's song on piano. Through this whole thing, I met the Round 2 challenge (utilizing at least one sample from each crate), the Round 4 challenge (utilizing builds, drops, tempo and groove changes and other such fun crowdpleaser tricks), and more. Most importantly, we had fun on this project. This competition, as has been stated throughout, is first and foremost about helping birth new music into the world. While the challenge that was rolled for the "Idealistic Misfits" was a stifling one that we collectively turned our noses up at, what we have here is something all of us are proud of. If I'm not mistaken, taking defined genres and subverting them is precisely what nerdcore is all about, anyways. Hopefully you can enjoy what this motley mob of misfit mischief-makers has brought to your ears. Thank you, VPC.

Lyrics
Verse 1 (Michaelangeflow) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vermin_Supreme
It's so bold to roll dice to dole out lofi
We got that rule of cool, we mold our own life
Ya heard of Vermin Supremely urging
Society stinks; its teeth need working
Instead of boot licking, his cap for thinking
Run for government, save that ship from sinking
The flow of his pen defies dystopian
On idyllic solutions we’ll find home again
Missile misfit sages down holes like wiki pages
A daring disdain of your glaring mistake
We integrated darkness, ascended pacifism
Now we're passing out mics to cultivate our vision
Like three extra ties hung around his neck
We flip off this challenge with all due respect
Free spirits summoned, a rumble to humble
An eclectic ensemble; power structures crumble

Verse 2 (JoeyZ64) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amelia_Earhart
You simply wouldn’t understand
A woman’s never done this
Flew over the Atlantic and all the earth that it encompass
For the thrill of the adventure
And the greater thrill of provin’ ‘em wrong
I didn’t interrupt ‘em when they said it couldn’t be done
I just did it
That’s the most effective way to do it
I wanted to fly a plane, so I got a plane and I flew it
Easy
It simply took tenacity of mind
You haven’t seen a tree until you’ve seen its shadow from the sky

Verse 3 (MC117) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Norton
(Please rise for the Emperor of these United States)
Ladies and gentlemen, I’m Emperor Norton
Dispensing with pleasantries, it’s rather important
To keep to the meat of my great proclamation
Wherein I begin to rule over our nation
Drastic? Perhaps, but I’m sick of hypocrisy
Really, though, how’s that been going, Democracy?
(Awkward.) It’s currently urgent, see,
You can’t bribe someone who prints his own currency
Congress is now defunct,
Eliminating both parties
America’s drunk and I’m taking the car keys
It’s hardly surprising they regard me as crazy
Dropping policies of racial equality
On the 1880s, so hate me or love me
But salute as I pass cuz there’s no one above me
I’ve reshaped the world to be as I wished it
I’m Norton the First, High Lord of the Misfits

Pre-chorus (Michaelangeflow)
Ya messed with mystics
That's bad for business
We formed resistance
By calling all misfits
(repeat)

Chorus 1
(crowd) Calling all misfits
(Michael) Calling all misfits
(repeat 4x)

Verse 4 (Beefy & Navi) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimothy_(raccoon) & https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iberian_orca_attacks
Tag team, back again
Just do crime with your animal friends
Let’s two-time this mechanical hell
M-A-M-M-A-L-S
Look don't touch you'll be happy to see
I got the honorary degree from the university
But your spine so different! / I don't got a disease
and I got friends across the world and that includes the high seas
In a pod like peas, we hate peace,
Gladis Blanca, Killer Whale Queen
Wanna vaycay on a yacht in Mallorca?
Get your boat bopped by Jimothy and orcas
I’ll bring a snorkel / we’ll bring meat
CEO Trash, ready to eat
We’ll go looking for a barge to bash
I could settle down in a garbage patch

Pre-chorus (Shael Riley)
Ya messed with mystics
That's bad for business
We formed resistance
By calling all misfits

Chorus 2 (crowd)
Calling all misfits
(repeat 4x)

Verse 6 (Flexstyle) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affair_of_the_Sausages
Let’s get our affairs in order
When things get ridiculous
Creating indignities
We may need to prepare a reformer…
If you break their rules, are you told you’re a sinner?
They got those ivory towers, they’re controlling the winner
Let all of it simmer, those pulling the levers
Can eat this sausage, just come over for dinner

Pre-chorus (Michaelangeflow)
Ya messed with mystics
That's bad for business
We formed resistance
By calling all misfits
(repeat)

Chorus (crowd)
Calling all misfits
(repeat 8x)

    CHALLENGE 10

Instant 10 on the production. OK Flexstyle. I admit it. YOU'RE THE BEST PRODUCER, OK???? (BOWS DOWN) I WISH I COULD GIVE THIS AN 11!!!! THIS IS NERDCORE. This is truly what it's all about. Weird shit, specific shit, and misfits, every collab and genre change and subject change perfect. Piano driven lo-fi, Jay-Z inspired boom bap, modern trap, Swedish house mafia style big room electro house turned Zedd-inspired electro house, drum and bass (so fucking cool how this part fits over the piano), breakbeat. It all just flows so effortlessly and naturally. None of it feels out of place or forced. I had to immediately play these on my partner's nice speakers and he said, "I want each of these sections stretched out into its own song so that it's a whole album" I have nothing constructive to say about any of this, so let me just say that when Shael starts singing the chorus over the Swedish House Mafia section, that might've been the hypest I got in ALL of the VPC. I know I haven't been hot on every single track you created for this competition, but you are objectively excellent musicians and this was truly the track of all time. What a way to end with a bang by going balls to the wall. Y'all are truly gifted and I cannot wait to see what you do next!

very clear and crispy vocals! everyone killed their verses. very cool beat switches in the song to change the feel of the song overall. meshes really well. from Lo-fi to EDM, drum and bass, and dubstep very cool concept! vocals are leveled very well with the vocal inputs. the only small thing I have about the track is that even though it blends well it feels more like a mix of different tracks together other than a full connected song, almost as a DJ mix if that makes sense. That is the only reason why it isn't a perfect score. Overall great song.

The intro beat is beautifully menacing. The emperor broadcast bit is incredibly executed. The production here stays interesting without seeming forced. Some of the best production in the round, hell, maybe all 5. Vocal energy throughout is consistent and entertaining.

Oh snap, MC 117 and Shael Riley are new entries to this VPC's roster! This beat evolves in a great way. Really thoughtfully arranged. omg, I haven't heard this type of flow from MC since "Boomtime Hustle" by Torrentz, only this time he didn't say "daddy". These features are all a blast. Okay, I like the loophole approach. You gave us a lofi beat. And like six other beats. Overall, this production is really solid and imaginative. I appreciate the journey.

    CHALLENGE 10

Sounds like you guys have a new VPC name for next year, or a supergroup to form. As far as I'm concerned, you weren't given any challenge at all, so way to take it upon yourselves to stay in line with the parameters set. On a serious note, I will say the lo-fi built into something greater and enjoyed it, but would say it was a tad more upbeat than something truly in that genre, * All teams receive a '10' in their challenge category from me this round. This has to be one of the most randomized challenges and can seem insurmountable with the wrong pairing. As such, I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's ability to rise to the task.
