Lyrics
[Intro - navi]
Hello, my name is Navi DeBergi
I’m a content producer
I produce a lot of content.
That Imp song, Booster Pack?
Cop that booster pack, shorty?
That was mine.
On night in 20X6, I was scrolling the internet,
On a website called wikipedia,
Don’t look for it. It’s not there any more.
But that night, I read an article,
That for me, redefined the word video game.
That article was for the legendary Plok!
needless to say, I jumped at the chance to make the documentary
The, if you will, plokumentary, that you’re about to hear.
But hey, enough of my yakking
Sit back, relax, and enjoy. The year is 1993
[Verse 1 - Imp]
A new mascot character steps up to the challenge
Whose silhouette kinda sorta looks like a Klansman
And if you disagree, squint, and look at him again
I'm certain this won't later be relevant
A king whose underwelming sales kept him outclassed
Despite near universal acclaim, and addoration for the soundtrack
Lives on Super Nintendo, canceled port for Mega Drive
It's a uber misstep ("oh can it, dawg") I'll reconcile
Programmed by John Buckley, Lyndon Brooke on the artin',
Tim and Geoff Follin composing all the audio for it
Designed by Ste and John Pickford, the best and fool proof
Ladies, gents, and enbys I present to you:
Plok!
[Verse 2 - Only One Ronin]
Long live the king
Plok! Of Akrillic
The plot gonna shock
On the spot
When you hear it
Theives stole his flag
Smash and grab
So he had to stop them
Left the isle of akrillic
For the land of cotton
Battled the bobbins brothers
Fantastic
Rescued the flags from
The ones who kidnapped it
But coming back it
Was all a distraction
A dastardly deed
From the flee made faction
They over ran his home
complete decimation
So with his grandpappy's amulet
And greater determination
Plok clapped back
To enact extermination
With a buzzsaw jump to his prey
Ya shoulda seen it!
Defeated the creatures
And made his way to the fleapit
After committing war crimes,
he took out the queen there
Then went back to his flag
And sat on his green chair
[Verse 3 - ArtClassHero]
I'm the
King of Akrillic
people think its a picnic
but its a hard road
I'm traveling
Sphrouts thinking its childs play
but actually
i lose a limb
if fleas come after me
disconnect arm and legs
and still i have a ball
not for long
i got my status back
im a maniac
im killing all the fleas around
to find out where the mommy at
I got the shells in tact
im traveling past Bobbins
golden fruits in my garden
so im never starving
i might speed blade you
or get my amulet
im back to save the day
dont care if you want to live
im here to plokterminate
i get my blunderbuss
and rocket launchers
im like a renegade
hit the flea pit
im dashing off
in a stellar way
im side scrolling through my land
im tough enough
to get the jetpack
with the lasers
and scruff you up
im tough enough
to really find the queen
make her wave my flag
See I am not a plok
to be trifled with
[Verse 4 - Imp & Joey Z64]
Plok began as Fleapit by the Pickford brothers
Starring the Exploding Man with crimson and orange colors
Rare said take it, but ain't no hand holdin'
It'll be yall Self funding to get the game rollin'
I WAS FILLING UP PAGES WITH NEW SKETCHES & POSES
CHANGED THE COLORS & THE SIZES, ALL THE FEATURES & PROPORTIONS
TIL IT MORPHED INTO A HOOD WITH A BIG ASS MOUTH
WE CALLED HIM “PLOK” GOT IT OFF THAT LABEL STUCK TO MY MOUSE
Development stunts, bruh, I used to wonder what's out
Software Creations plucks the Pickfords to sculpture right now
Making games like Incredible Crash Dummies and Equinox
Fleapit Changes Forms, now we're here pitchin PLOK
WORD TO TIM & CHRIS STAMPER, THE BROTHERS RUNNIN RARE
TOLD US PLAY A MARIO & START MAKIN A GAME THERE
Part of why we bounced, Software Creations got kits for the SNES
Got the company doing co-funding for Development
NOW WE PRODUCING & DIRECTING & DESIGNING IT TOO
WE GOT SOME LOFTY AMBITIONS ON WHAT WE TRYIN TO DO
WE WANT THE GAMEPLAY SMOOTH & THE MOVEMENTS CRISP
EVEN MIYAMOTO LIKE, “how y’all do this shit?”
Other hardware developed sprites with bitmap grids
The Fleapit team simply wasn't with that [shhh]
Pixels stored as bytes determining color and arrangement
Made for ease of use, compression, and styles complacent
BUNCH OF SELF-TAUGHT ARTISTS WITH NO STANDARDIZATION
JUST A BUNCH OF FOLKS MAKIN UP GAMES THAT AIN’T BEEN MADE YET
THE PROJECT EVOLVED, DOG, WE CHANGING THE GRAPHICS
YO, HAND ME THAT MAGIC MARKER, JOHN, IM MAKING IT HAPPEN
There's no save or password system to preserve all the magic
Sounds stored in the cartridge GET PROCESSED LIKE FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Like, open it up, no modifications, just gold we makin’
TOLD TIM & GEOFF FOLLIN “Y'ALL ARE CLEARED FOR GOIN' APESHIT”
[Verse 5 - navi]
Snes handle 8 channel sounds
Like a challenge, watch them Follin boys
Push as far as it can manage
Prog rock, Motown, manic and bombastic, miyamoto-san said that
The Harmonica had to be
Real, bruh.
The OST a big deal, huh.
Pressed to cassette reel,
plus that double vinyl, red yellow
Disk, five hundred sold, in a mellow twist
Led Dave wise to write aquatic ambience. Plok!
[Verse 6 - Pinky & Clementine]
So, for release the makers S-C
Went up to Nintendo and said
Hay, could you publish me?
I mean ooooh I like your confidence.
Even Mr .Miyamoto said
This could be as good as second best! (Yeah!)
Speculative as it is, it’s still competition
They did the European market
But elsewhere, Tradewest n Activision
So then it comes to marketing,
The Super Pickford Bros were never told
Or consulted on PLOK!’s PROMO.
Which in the Uk did ok, reel on a vhs tape
But the print in rest of Europe was half-baked
Tradewest in the US, was best-press’d
Got in a showcase and a comic book reveal of plot
With overall N-Force magazine championing
As the most surreal game of the year was PLOK!
[Verse 7 - Ish1da]
Aw man, It's tha freaky pork chop
Gon fuck wit Sonic then if you want more slop
Distinguished in my genre, innovative aspects
Tha fit and tha glick and them limb mechanics
Fantastic, dropped a classic
Tha fact I ain't put ain't ten mo kinda tragic
Nintendo Life gave me an 8 out of 10
So I copped an EGM and then ate out a 10
They are not me and I am not them
Mothafuck Bubsy and fuck Rayman
Came out tha fleapit to become made men
All we had was a dollar and a dream, Amen
King like K. Rool, G you like J2
Hard af, ain't much that can save you
And I came to avenge my name like Meru
I'm that gas in tha jet pack, y'all just K2
[Verse 8 - Imp]
(The saga Ploktinues!)
Decades since Plok's gaming forray met its closure
Exterminating fleas with jetpacks and flamethrowers
Gamereactor ranked Plok 19th best platformer
Ever to release, strange that the campaign's over
Mario Brothers could've had some bonafied rivalry
Mobilized against the older guys, coulda spied idoltry
Retrospective journalists noted Plok was setting the stage
For alot of innovations that was pending to stay
Was Rayman the first with detatchable limbs? (Hell nah!)
Thought Dynamite Headdy was fittin' the bill? (Hell nah!!)
Yoshi's Crafted World the first made of cloth? (Hell nah!!!)
Was Kirby's Epic Yarn predatin' Plok? (Hell nah!!!!)
(Long live Akrillic!) The webcomic carries the tradition
Set 20 years later, with the Pickfords still pennin'
Failed commercially but cult status riveting
One game you need to try before rigor mortis positions in
Odd! The game with the hangman relented privilege
Regarding getting more games, I've been diddled again
But as far as legacy, it's a brilliant success
You can't deny its work. Plok! Give your respectJUDGES' BREAKDOWN

10.00/10 score rank #1 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10Wow, this was a freakin' journey. As expected of the ever indie, ambitious, experimental imp & navi. The concept ambitious AF and was delivered near flawlessly. This is what I might label "progressive hip-hop". With how long the track was, it really did feel like a documentary. The fact that you brought in whole TEAMS to collaborate with you on each section (wikipedia / song section), with navi working with the producer and imp working with the vocalists, was really quite something I don't think I expected anyone to do in 3 weeks. It does end up being quite long which you all by now know makes it hard to keep my attention (I know, I know, it's now a running joke that I get easily bored - but I feel like some standardization of verse length could've benefitted the song). I have to give you props for the monumental effort and undertaking. While it is not my favorite track I think technically it executes on all levels and deserves the full score. imp & navi, you have been one of the top teams of this comp - truly a dream team - and with each round I judge, I always jump to hear what you cooked up, and you never disappoint. Keep up the wacky weird virtuosity and I look forward to hearing more amazing music from both of you.

9.33/10 score rank #7 of 24VOCALS 9PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 10Such a creative concept! informative tracks with witty lyrics give such a personality to the song. The instrumental sounds very experimental and ambient throughout. lots of changes and switches in the track which is really dope to match the feel for each artists' rhyme schemes. nailed the challenge.

9.33/10 score rank #10 of 24VOCALS 9PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 10Plok: The Documentary: The Musical? I guess. I am sure the VPC commissioner is absolutely thrilled with this roll and I'm glad you could make this entire ordeal an extended engagement and keep my attention the whole time. I want to see this concept of video game documentaries developed into an entire album, there's something here! * All teams receive a '10' in their challenge category from me this round. This has to be one of the most randomized challenges and can seem insurmountable with the wrong pairing. As such, I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's ability to rise to the task.

10.00/10 score rank #1 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10Imma keep this one short: A lot of love went into this, particularly given the obscurity of the subject matter. The vocalists all brought a unique vibe to this, and the production is sublime throughout. Perfect.

10.00/10 score rank #1 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10I love that took your free choice and went next level with it. I love the shuffled roles from section to section. This is such a cool approach. This one is an all-timer for me. Is Plok! good? I should check it out. This is exactly what I want from the posse round of the VPC. This shit goes hella hard. I love the ride from section to section, I love the framing device. I love the vibes and vaguely surreal sheen. This is an odyssey and a delight.
