Pausy Cut (feat. Vincent E. L. & Rhyme Artist & Ohm-I & Kordlyss)
Vocalist's challenge writeup
Vincent E. L. the Earwig Linguist: I wrote most of my verse before I knew how many people we'd have on the track, so I just focused on heaping compliments on Kordlyss. I decided to challenge myself to stay on the "or" assonance through my entire verse and just heighten on the theme as much as possible within that lyrical framework. Then Kordlyss brought in these other two lovely MC's and I ended up looking like I was ignoring them. They're great also. Rhyme Artist: Chapter 1, verse 1 I, Rhyme Artist, a.k.a Rabum Alal, The Great Destroyer(lol), was tapped by Kordlyss and Vincent to work on a compliment song. I wasn't sure on how to approach it at 1st. Was I supposed to compliment them, and they compliment me? Were we supposed to pick a person from another team to compliment? These were a few of the questions i had for Vincent, who in turned suggested we compliment eachother in our own ways. So, with that on the side, i then proceed to figure out how to attack the challenge. I chose to compliment everyone on the team. During my writing process, i listened to one of Kordlyss' songs from the past and it got me thinking of the late, great Mighty Misc, and how cool he was to me. Always showing support. Back then, i was new to Nerdcore, and didnt have many people I could call a friend/guide. His 1st album i had ever listened to was the one based on Hobbits and The Shire. On it, was a song that had Kordlyss featured on it, that was how I learned about Kordlyss. Anyway, long story short: I also gave a shoutout to Misc. Vincent also had this cool idea of all group participants sending him records of sounds, anything from: the faucet running, door hinges, anything at all to implement in the beat he was crafting for us to rap on. Honestly, this came out really well. I liked everyone's way of tackling the challenge. It was fun to write, record and work on this with the guys. OHM-I's verse was freaking hilarious, i freaking loved it, Fr fr. Ohm-I: I started this challenge thinking about Kordlyss' throat muscles cause they're so strong (pause). I finished writing with the same thoughts. Thanks for reading. Kordlyss: I, Kordlyss, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the booth, forever. Amen Adam and Moses. I started this VPC this year thinking with full confidence that Vincent and I were going to sweep each round and easily take #1 each time. When I found out that we hadn't won the first round, and then the second round, for the third and fourth rounds, I actually had my verses outsourced to a company that specializes in lyric replication generation, which is why, clearly the fourth round sounded like something I wouldn't have written. It's cause I didn't. I also didn't perform round 1 AND round 3. You thought I could do that voice for that long on Round 3? Nope. Hired a voice actor who could rap and also could sound like me. This round? God. I think these notes are the most effort I put into it. I honestly think the lyrics weren't written, I just kept copy/pasting random words out of the online dictionary in an arbitrary order until it filled out the necessary bars. And definitely performed by Vincent splicing up all of my verses from past rounds and matching them up to my randomly chosen word stew pulled out of the dictionary. If you guys actually happen to know where my aunt is. Her name is Martha Fandotio, she's about 5'4, and she's been gone for a few weeks and lives in Cumming, Iowa. Producer's challenge writeup
I, Mozart von Robot, put out a request to the group for random recordings from which to construct a beat. I received from Kordlyss and Rhyme Artist the sounds of doors, keys, toys, faucets, background noise, microphone rumble and other such things. All of this, I modified into some semblance of usable instruments per similar methods I had applied in an earlier round. Later in the process of collaboration, Ohm-I provided a recording of himself doubling the melody on saxophone, which I was able to sample and fit into the beat as the only "real" musical instrument. Vincent E. L. the Earwig Linguist completely misunderstood the assignment and sent spoken word samples gathered from who knows where, but I incorporated those as well. I would argue that all vocalists deserve co-producer credit. My contribution, per the challenge, was silence. I do not believe I need to explain what silence is.
Lyrics
Vincent E. L. the Earwig Linguist: Kordlyss, the sort who's a source of scorching warmth and supportiveness. Strength of forty tortoises, forklifts and fortresses. I couldn't find you boring if I had its coordinates. You're more gorgeous than papilionoideae post-metamorphosis. no matter what you adorn your corporeal form with, you're fly like storks, condors, Conchords and corvids. Your adorableness should pose for so many portraits, forthwith, surrounded by orchids. Feels like I've been snorting endorphins. Your proportions dwarf the allure of porcelain ornaments and your oratory performance gags dictatorial ordinance. Your recordings, each a tour de force, a smörgåsbord of important discourse, should score more corporate endorsements than snorkling contortionist orphans. Fortunes, procured in four months. I'm sure of it. It correlates. Therefore the conclusion of causation is warranted. How can anyone feel normal again, when you're metaphorically Jörmungandr? Ooohrrmyhgeeeeerd... See, according to Nordic lore, Midgård is surrounded by an enormous Ourob-- Rhyme Artist: Kordlyss got the spark, every verse ignite the room, Turn a test into a mosh pit, make a textbook boom. Nerd with the nerve, let the cool ideas breathe, Every topic fair game, he got infinity up the sleeve. Energy volcanic, every stage a launchpad lift, Salute to Kordlyss, proving passion is the greatest gift. Vincent on the beats, lacing drums with cool techniques Make the drum machine break from awesome samples so unique R.i.p to mighty misc, who introduced me to Kordlyss on the "Secret lives of hobbits" album Which was gorgeous Sick cinematic sampling we rapping on Regardless of the way we playing we still making an-awesome song Kordlyss, Vincent and Ohm-I flex the best pen, Lyrical tacticans on the mic, blessed and stay zen. When the 4 combine, we morphing into voltron So strong, the head is Kordlyss, while the rest is anchored by his grace that we slope on (haha) Ohm-I: I think that Kordlyss has the deepest throat And that's a compliment Cause for as long as he's been rapping I've never seen him choke He must've devoured Merriam and Webster's Dic-tionary For him the speak all the words he done wrote Kordlyss has the deepest throat. He swallows massive definitions then repeats and quotes without the need for breathing Other rappers would be struggling and coming up for air Cause no else is reaching near the depths that he's achieving Kordlyss has the deepest throat He's got that stamina and stride Deep down, he's feeling it inside When he spits, he always doing with it pride That's why he gives you vocals wet and only Vincent gets it dry. Kordlyss has the deepest throat. His gags are dope fiction with no friction and no tensions. So Listen, if you choose not follow him No worries, Kordlyss is a pro. He can swallow it And maybe if i rapped a little bit faster to squeeze in all these words I'd be as half as competent Kordlyss: Vincent, you've put me in a position where I feel forced to mention that you're wonderful it's always productive when we work and there's nothing both of us feels uncomfortable with calling out about each other that sucks or blows ego's left at the door, or in our case, notebooks, phones or PCs you beat beats in a way that beats other beat beaters plus this geek's sweeter than the gloves of a bee keeper A.P. wrists when they make magnifique masterpieces which Audemars/oughta mar the competition plus they got sick bars on top of this and there's also no stopping the Rhyme Artist he makes other artists who rhyme sound like garbage bringing the funk like ripe armpits hellraiser, Clive barker, helps players, like Arli$$ he's the shit, y'all can stop trying to buy Charmin he expects exceptional iROAS at a high margin and don't even get this guy started on MC Oh-mi, Oh my god, this quite charming, light hearted guy is gonna give you a whole lot, so don't go and try CarMax won't balm when he gives you lip, like Carmex he's by far the most talented amongst us, tied with you two he twice as cool as at least I am, who might be cuckoo inside me noodle yo, anyone tries to boo you and I will fucking tear and eat their skin off of them and pour vinegar into their exposed muscle tissues and I might even fight them too, shoot, all of us go way back I still have the same unbearable tone, Oh-mi still plays sax Rhyme artist's still straight wrath and Vincent's over here creating some amazingly dank tracks thanks for the laughs Israel, Mozart and Leron I'm lucky to say I'm still here with y'all to rhyme and spit never know how much time we have RIP Elan, you'll be mighty missed

9.00/10 score rank #8 of 24VOCALS 9PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 10That chorus is a fucking banger PAUSE! PAUSE! PAUSE! PAUSE! PAUSEY CUT! PAUSEY CUT! God, Ohm-I is just so good at everything. Perfect verse. I liked that everyone had a very unique perspective/framing of the "compliment verse". Nice balance of rapping styles and voices too. That complete silence might've been the best executed silence for this particular challenge. This really is taking a challenge and putting it towards a concept that lends itself well to the challenge. The beat hits hard and the heaviness really really shines in the chorus. I do think the samples and sounds that dominate the beat are pretty harsh and rough on the ears which does take away from my enjoyment of it a little bit. I feel similarly about the vocal mix and think the track overall would benefit from some polishing. I took points off that but I do acknowledge it is a probably a stylistic choice. The Beatlyss has put out many high-effort and creative tracks for this comp and this was probably the best one yet! Shoutout to your eternal commitment to always sprinkle a little something *different* in everything you do. I feel like y'all were one of the contrarians of the comp that still had a great showing. And the growth and evolution throughout the comp is clear. Keep flying that weirdo flag!

8.00/10 score rank #15 of 24VOCALS 8PRODUCTION 6CHALLENGE 10Rhyme schemes from you all is great from start to finish! give me a office space/rage against the machine gritty feel which is dope! Only wish the snare was a little clean and shaped with a sidechain. That honesty the only thing effecting the production score. It sometimes distracts the verses a little after listening in head phones and on monitors. met challenge, good work!

10.00/10 score rank #1 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 10CHALLENGE 10I love the way you built a track concept around the silence challenge. I think Ohm-I made the best use of the framing device. Leaning into the "(pause)" trope, the recurring "Kordlyss has the deepest throat" motif, remarkable work. Vincent's verse brings to mind the time MC 117 said "oratorical oracle". I love the ormaxxing of it all. Vincent's schemes are always just a delight to listen to—like reading Douglas Adams sentences. Every really brought the heat on this one. the silence are all meaningful and legitimately silent. Stellar work y'all.

9.33/10 score rank #10 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 10Guys. Fellas. Ohm-i SPECIFICALLY. Are these actually compliments? This seems like a badly concealed diss track between friends, but I did have a pretty good laugh while listening. This was a great way to end round 5, and genuinely enjoyed reading through the challenge notes you left. * All teams receive a '10' in their challenge category from me this round. This has to be one of the most randomized challenges and can seem insurmountable with the wrong pairing. As such, I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's ability to rise to the task.

9.67/10 score rank #4 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 9CHALLENGE 10Standout collab verse from the round goes to a verse about the deepest throat. That speaks volumes. Song is fire, incredible rapping on this one. Only complaint is the snare could be a bit lower in the mix for the vocals’ sake.
