One Night Ultimate Werewolf Beach Vacation (feat. JoeyZ, navi, ARTCLASSHERO, Tanner, Imp)

Vocalist's challenge writeup

This was quite the challenge, but we all pulled together. There was a lot of us for a dis track so it was important to find a motive for so many folks at odds with each other. Everyone volunteered a role and one person was assigned the werewolf so it's also a fun minigame to see if the listener can find the actual werewolf.

Producer's challenge writeup

For this track I had to combine 3 genres I combined pop punk, chip tune and 90s hip hop The pop punk was a little guitar that I played and looped. For chip tune I played a little chiptune over the guitar and for the 90s hip hop I sampled a bom bap beat It was challenging but I think it came together really well!

One Night Ultimate Werewolf: Beach Vacation

~JOEYZ~ [Trouble Maker]
I BET U IMP DID IT
LET ME SHOW U, I CAN PROVE IT
I SAW THEM UP AT 3AM LOOKING ALL WEREWOLFISH
& HOLDING A KNIFE PROBLY
I WASNT RLY LOOKIN
I WAS BEING SUPER NORMAL IN MY CABIN, I WAS SNOOZIN
I WAS WATCHING CARTOONS & SWAPPING CARDS HAPHAZARDLY
ALFRED PROBLY DID IT, I DUNNO, STOP ASKING ME
ASK SELENE, THEY'VE BEEN BEGGING TO DIE
THEY TOLD ME ART BEEN HOWLING ON THE DOCK LIKE EVERY NIGHT
HMMMM......
SOUNDS A LOT LIKE WHAT A WEREWOLF WOULD DO
NAVI, DO I LOOK LIKE A FUCKIN WEREWOLF TO YOU?
IF YOU THINK ID BE A WEREWOLF IM EMBARRASSED FOR YOU
I STILL SAY IMP'S THE WEREWOLF, I DONT CARE IF IT'S TRUE
... ILL BET U 6 DOLLARS IM RIGHT THO
A SIDE NOTE: THE SUN'S GOING DOWN, WHERE'D THE TIME GO?
THIS PART WAS PROBLY IMPLICIT
IF I HAPPEN TO DIE TONIGHT VIA CLAW SWIPE: IMP DID IT

~ navi ~
We’re not the werewolf
We’re just townfolk from the village
On vacation to the beach.
We don’t wanna battle you!
All we wanna do is eat
And drink and sleep and swim
On vacation at the beach.

~ARTCLASSHERO~ [Doppleganger]

Maybe i did it
and you're right
you're looking mad skittish
moving like a dog in the night
maybe Imp and Navi did it
took the competition
so why not take the night
they're up anyway
I mean JoeyZ said it was
big and bright the other day
and as long as I'm pointing fingers
at anybody but me
maybe Damn Selene slid up on the scene
and started howling

I mean
I'm howling too
I guess its a long night for figuring
out without a doubt
if Ronin got
big teeth for grinning

or if i got something in my teeth
that at the time was really wild delicious
its a mystery
im telling you
its possibility
but the teen wolf probably isn't me
the situations scary
i'll lock myself up anyway
if the situations hairy
call the other me
sharp wit doppelgang
like Jekyll
ive been Hyding
what big plans i have
lots of questions
shadow stalking in the night
I move without detection

man the sky is so bright

~TANLENE~ [Tanner]

I
I against I
I'd consent to silver bullets
just to end my dull life

Pull a sheep in wolves clothing
With a cloak of spare hides
Moonlighting as a prowler
Catch me growling dockside

I smell like I sound
My mouth is alive
Think I'm going full method
Left a tooth in Imp’s thigh

Salivating, I confess [[
Meat's on the menu tonight
My what big teeth I possess
The better for my next bite

IMP [Insomniac]
I've been up all night spying, my eyes large as dinner plates
I can look at the drunkard and I tell that they've been a fake
You can't tell me alcoholism runs in your bloodline
None of y'all ever ran, muchless could sit upright

The village troublemaker over there got everyone uptight
They pointing fingers to blame or who they want by lunchtime
Y'all could both be wolves, y'know they travel in packs
I asked the town doppleganger and they said "copy that",

The tanner couldn't be the wolf, suicidal since i met them
And too cowardly to do it themselves, they need to get help
You can stop with the pining, I saw you pilfer silver
Telling us to kill you quicker, get the picture
It's probably the seer, you claim to know who's a werewolf
Seeing is believing, right?, You must be aware. (Wolf)
Don't say I'm a lycanthrope, I ain't likin'/lycan that
The only full moon you can have is to kiss my entire ass

RONIN [SEER]
Can't none of yall see me
With the foresight
Out here,
I got more views
than a porn site
Out here
Jackie Chan mastering
The coors lite
Out here
Only struggle they face
Is a 4 pint
Stout beer
This ain't a who done it
If I know who the were be
Why when I know the answer
People tried to ensnare me
Trouble maker
Messing up the flow
switching up the deck
But I know it's you
Nothing but the truth
with my whole chest
no rest for the wicked
It could be over real
quick if
You could buy a posturepedic
And stop hanging around
I know exactly who you are
Want you out of my town
Or give your self to the dopple
wear your fur as a gown
So they can stop suffering
From a deficiency of intrigue
just another clay face
With none of the mystique
Point at me if you want
what's a beach bum to a psychic
I'd speak Ill of the tanner,
but they'd probably like it

This was a strong concept to try to wrap the "diss track" challenge around 5 rappers. On paper it's better than the actual execution because there are barely any real disses in the verses. Battle rap is a very specific style of writing and while there is an effort to try to attack and accuse others for being the werewolf, which I think was a good way to go about it, it misses the mark on having actual battle bars. Vocals were strong but again I don't feel like many people wrote for the battle rap challenge. I can understand though, as there was probably fatigue for all of these people who participated in all of these different teams' challenges! Production fused all three genre samples gorgeously, but it was a bit too repetitive over quite a long time to keep my interest. I think overall this track could've benefited from tightening and editing. The Creative Complex has always pushed the envelope in style and concepts during this VPC. You guys maybe have some of my favorite concepts of the comp. I could definitely learn a thing or two from you!

It... it's the tanner right? I'm pretty sure. This may be my favorite track from the round, I loved the interactivity of it, the layers of meaning and ambiguity. Damn. What a clever way to execute the challenge, well done. * All teams receive a '10' in their challenge category from me this round. This has to be one of the most randomized challenges and can seem insurmountable with the wrong pairing. As such, I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's ability to rise to the task.

Beat is an immediate head bobber. This one of them beats I'd love to rap on for real. This is wierd in a way that just works. Vocals are performed well, the raps was definitely rapping. Vox could use another level pass for consistency across verses, and the snare in the beat has some wild level changes, but overall, this is great.

Great verses from everyone on this track. solid mix and beat! they are some parts of the drums are not synced the best in the forms of arraignment. the effects and glitch in the beat are cool but at points it gets out of sync with the main melody which makes it feel a little off center. overall dope track!

Okay, this is a very fun groove. I like the combo of genres. Smashed together quite nicely. The beat has a very bandpassed feel. The guitar feels a little too squashed with compression. The overall result is a bit of a pinched head feeling that I think begs for release at some point. I was almost expecting it open up like an intro reveal. I do love a l-fi 90s breakbeats though. It's a vibe, for sure. Maybe that's the blender effect. I would love to hear some more subtle loop variation in the verses, but round five is always a scramble, so I get it. The vocal mix does sound a little rushed, but these verses are real nice. I think this might be my fav OnlyOneRonin's verse this round! Navi's hook is a delight. The chip arps are good ear candy as well. I really dig the idea of a party game as the context for the "battle". There are some great schemes in here.
