Lyrics
YAZZ it's the Black Kurt Russell in Captain Ron tryna mail cards but the stamps are gone Knight of the round but the lance is long then I get in jeopardy and I answer wrong I might be trash but I recycle saw Space Jam wanna be like Michael smoke secret stuff with my buds I can't do it man, it's all love how can I diss my friends when every diss I drop means a life will end rehab and a jailhouse to rest a head if I'm mean to your face, you'll be fucking dead when I say you I don't mean Ardamus behold a man who can take a really mighty hit goldbrick heavyweight to break my fist like the riddler making Tommy Jones have a fit PENZEL The hardest lesson in a sparrin’ session makes you get better in regards discretion Don’t get respected, done that bad And you treat it like boxing, punch jab jab With an uppercut, bob weave, probably, sloppy Hit em’ with your words, make em’ buckle if they’re knock kneed Example, Matt, ain’t said word yet Tell him that his beard looks like a bird’s nest Then you could diss me, won’t cost you none Make me laugh, say I look like Craig Robinson Diss yourself, won’t take up some time Mohawk or mullet, make up your mind All in a compilation Are things were said in observation You could mix it up, diss you both or separately Young Sullivan, is your pedigree elderly YAZZ goldbrick heavyweights starring Ben Stiller the James got rocks got bodies got killers float like a log, take a ride down the river fly like a bumblebee, spicy as vanilla PENZEL Oh no no no, you’re supposed to do the opposite But I will thank you for the compliments Look at me, look at Matt, state the obvious Try again, now tho with some confidence YAZZ told you once lemme do it again if I go too hard, we will not be friends there's a line in the sand that's hard to tread burn the bridge from both fucking ends PENZEL Think of it like you destroy and build With a back and forth deploying skill All you really gotta do is apply more To beat the rap game, you gotta beat the high score

7.67/10 score rank #22 of 24VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 8I mean yeah, again, interesting spin on the "battle rap" prompt, but this is mostly an effort to avoid the very technical challenge of actually writing battle bars. For that I took points off the challenge. I do appreciate that Penzel played the role of a martial arts coach teaching someone to spar with their words. Yazz is great but just lacks energy here and drags a bit on the beat, almost like he really is just trying to avoid the prompt at all costs. The No Drums challenge is always super difficult and I heard the many efforts to make the beat percussive and forward-moving without any drums. I hear you adding in all these elements to spice up the beat and they came together less like a melting pot and more like a chopped salad. It ends up sounding a bit too busy with not enough cohesion. I don't think the guitar and scratching needed to be there throughout every verse, for example. YNG SLLVN, I know we have had our ups and downs, and perhaps it's just a personal taste thing that I have never given you super super high scores. But I did have some really pleasantly surprising highlights from you throughout the comp, including the high effort HTML files for lyrical annotations, and the song entirely in French. I hope you both continue being creative, high effort, and developing your craft - that's all we really have, isn't it? Continuez comme ça!

This is some Crayondroids adjacent shit, WHAT A CAPSTONE TRACK FROM YS Is that the fuckin gameboy sound in the background damn that hits so hard. * All teams receive a '10' in their challenge category from me this round. This has to be one of the most randomized challenges and can seem insurmountable with the wrong pairing. As such, I am thoroughly impressed with everyone's ability to rise to the task.

9.33/10 score rank #9 of 24VOCALS 10PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 10Ardamus as the trainer in this concept is really good, excellent choice and execution there. Think the beat is cool, gives me Ivan Drago's entrance theme mixed with something robotically sexual for some reason. It's a very nice soundscape. I think the instrumental itself can use a mix pass to create more space for the vocals to sit, as it can be a bit overpowering in relation to the vocals at times.

8.00/10 score rank #14 of 24VOCALS 7PRODUCTION 8CHALLENGE 9This is nice approach for no drums. These elements all accomplish what drums would, but don't feel like percussion exactly. Really unique and it works. Sparring with Ardamus sounds like a good way to get hurt lol. Heavy hitter on the mic. The training gym framing is a cool way to do it. The Cold Crush Brothers sample is a classic.
